News:
 
1.  Help us collect valuable data for our school by participating in Speak Up

Join the conversation about the use of technology for learning through Speak Up, a National Research Project. Since 2003, nearly 4 million K-12 education stakeholders have participated in the annual online surveys. Data findings are shared each year with federal, state and local policymakers to inform education programs, policies and funding.

Instructions for completing the Speak Up survey

  1. Go to this link: http://www.speakup4schools.org/speakup2015

  2. Click on the appropriate survey (Parent or Community member).

  3. Follow the given instructions to access the survey. Begin by entering your school zip (46140) or clicking on the drop down button and select your state, then go to the next line and type in your school name to find your school.

  4. Parents will NOT need the password to access the survey.

2. For those families in need of Christmas assistance, United Christmas Service applications are now available at the school.  Applications will be accepted through November 16th.  For further information, please contact Mrs. Fortuna (students with the last name A-K) or Mrs. Belcher (students with the last name L-Z), school counselor, at 477-4616.
3. The Builders Club is sponsoring a canned food drive this week.
4. NWEA Map Testing continues this week.  Students will finish the Reading portion today.  The Language Arts session will start Tuesday, and the math session will be later this week.
5. Report Cards are now available in the PowerSchool Portal.

News:

1.  Some of our related arts courses are nine weeks in length, so a class or two in your child’s schedule probably changed today.

3. Students will begin testing the NWEA MAP tests this week.  We plan to give the Reading portion of the test October 22 and 23.  The Language and Math tests will follow, during the week of October 26.

Principal’s Update 09/28/15

News:

1. Students are taking quarterly assessments this week. We scheduled them out over a few days so students do not have all of their tests on the same day.

2. Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars Program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school. Scholars who enroll are connected to programs and resources to help them plan, prepare, and pay for college. 7th and 8th grade Indiana students whose families meet income eligibility guidelines must apply to become a 21st Century Scholar by June 30 of the student’s 8th grade year. You can apply online at www.Scholars.IN.gov . You may also contact the school counselor for additional information.

Principal’s Update 09/21/15

News:

1. We have had great participation in getting donations for the walk-a-thon fundraiser! It looks like the weather will be perfect on Thursday afternoon for our walk. We will still take donations from students this week up until the start of our walk-a-thon. There will be a study hall environment that afternoon for students who chose not to raise money.

2. Tonight is the Band, Strings and Choir Concert. The band will perform at 6:00pm followed by our newest strings class at 7pm. The choir will then finish out the evening at 7:15pm. Admission is $2 for school-age and up.

3. This week is College GO! Week. We will be sharing statistics each morning to students about the benefits of getting an education beyond high school.

Principal Update 09/14/15

News:

 
1. This is the last week to collect donations for our fundraiser.  Students are asked to seek donations for various school activities and programs.  The students will then walk for one hour on the afternoon of September 24. We will have a study hall environment that afternoon for students who choose not to raise money.  We will collect envelopes Wednesday through Friday.
 
2.Tuesday is the last day to sign up for the 8th grade Washington DC trip. It is better to sign up now and back out later.
 
3. Dannah Gresh will be speaking to our students on the morning of September 23.  She is a nationally known speaker and author who talks about making good choices and purity.  For parents who are interested, she will be speaking to parents of adolescents on the evening of September 23, at Brandywine Church.

Principal Update 9/8/15

News:

  1. We distributed our fundraiser last week.  Students are asked to seek donations for various school activities and programs.  The students will then walk for one hour on the afternoon of September 24.   1. Our first after school dance will be in the gym on Friday, September 11,  after school until 5:30pm.  Dress is school casual.  Cost is $3 per person.  While there are some “couples” who attend together, most students just dance in large groups.  It’s a fun time for students to be together outside the school day.
  1. Congratulations to the 7th grade volleyball team for winning the Hancock County tournament!

Principal update 08/31/15

News:
1. Friday is School Pictures Day.  Students who are in Physical Education classes will take their pictures at the start of class.
 
2. Sports pictures are also on Friday, after school.
3. The GCJHS PTO will meet the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm in the school cafeteria. The next meeting is Wednesday, September 2nd at 6pm.  All GCJHS parents and guardians are invited to attend.
 
4.  At the end of this week, we will be distributing the school-wide fundraiser.  On Thursday, September 24, our student body will participate in a walk-a-thon, where students will commit to walk for 1 hour (on the GCJHS campus) in exchange for a donation from friends and family.  Money raised supports Riley Children’s Hospital, student activities, rewards and incentives, field trips, and Benevolence funds.   If each student raises at least $7, this will be our only school-wide fundraiser this year!  Staff will collect donation envelopes with cash and/or checks (made out to GCJHS) at lunch September 16-18.  All donations should be turned in by September 1

Hancock County Chalkfest 2015 -11 a.m. to 3 p.m.Saturday, Sept. 19:  The Hancock County Arts Council and Greenfield Main Street have been hard at work preparing for Chalk Fest 2015.  It’s just $5 per person and is a fun, affordable  family event. Artwork will be judged by age group — K-3rd, 4th-6th, 7th-8th, 9th-12th and adult — and cash prizes will be awarded for the top two winners in each age group.
