Principal’s Update 1/11/15

News:
 
1. Normally, students dropped off in the car line are permitted in the building at 8:20 AM.  On mornings the temperature drops below freezing, students will be allowed in the building at 8:00 AM
 
2.   We are excited that the school board has approved our building to go 1:1 with MacBooks next year!  Our teachers have been training hard to prepare for this move and we will have many procedures and safeguards in place for safe and smooth distribution and use of the computers next year.  The folks at the high school have been very helpful in sharing all that they have learned from the first year as a 1:1 school.  7th grade students are especially excited!
 
3. We will be taking the first round of ISTEP March 1-4.  Please make every effort to have your child here on those days.
 
4.  Just a reminder that the ISTEP Test continues to evolve in terms of rigor and format. Here are links to practice tests:

5. Attention 8th grade parents:  Please mark your calendars for the following dates as we begin preparations to transition your students to high school!
Monday, February 22nd, 2016 On the Road to High School Class of 2020
6:00 – 7:00 PM – “The End Zone” Open House – A chance for students and parents to learn about athletics, clubs, academic, and extra-curricular activities at G-CHS (Cafeteria).
7:00 – 8:00 PM – Class of 2020 Presentation for Parents – An introduction to the freshman scheduling process for parents and students for the Class of 2020 only (current 8th graders) – Auditorium
 
6. If for some reason, school is cancelled any day this week, we will attend on Monday, January 18 for the make up day.
 
7. Report cards are now available in the parent portal of PowerSchool.

2. We have multiple ways for you to obtain information regarding what’s happening at GCJHS.

3. Breakfast is available to students every morning before school.
