Principal’s Update 2/16/16

News

1. Congratulations to Emmily Holloman who qualified for SemiState in dance for her solo!  She and rest of the Dance Team will travel to Regionals in two weeks.

2. Workouts for 7th grade baseball will be on Thursday evenings 5:30-7:30pm at Dream Big Baseball.
Track and Field will have optional workouts on March 2 and 9.
Softball and Baseball tryouts will begin the week of March 14.
3. Our BOOST class has begun under the leadership of our newest addition to the staff, Mrs. Mardena Detamore.  Mrs. Detamore is leading a class for a group of students we identified through NWEA scores as likely to pass ISTEP this spring with a little extra “boost.”  We will pull students out a related arts class 2-3 days a week to spend with Mrs. Detamore on the specific areas the DOE says are points of emphasis this year.

4. ISTEP is just two weeks away!  The first test will begin March 1.   The second portion of ISTEP will begin the week of April 18th.  If at all possible, please avoid all appointments on these two weeks.  If this is not possible, your child will take the missed portions of the test during our make-up sessions which will occur while other students are in classes.
The Indiana Department of Education has developed a website where parents can view sample ISTEP+ items.  We would encourage you to take a look at this site and discuss the importance of the exam with your child.  These sample items can be found at:  http://download.pearsonaccessnext.com/IN/in-practice-tests-links.html   (Chrome does not support this  – use Safari, Explorer or another browser)
