Newsletter – December 8,2014

We only have two more weeks left in this semester! Students should be busy working on projects and studying for unit and final assessments. If students study each evening, the final exams will be less overwhelming next week!

Information
1. GCJHS students created ornaments for the city’s Christmas tree this year. Stop by the courthouse square and admire their creative work! Thanks to National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Art Club, Mrs. Findley and Mr. Spencer’s classes for pitching in!

2. We had over 150 students attend the Snowman Dance on Friday night.

3. Attached is an Athletic Hall of Fame Nomination form. If you want to nominate an outstanding former athlete or coach, please send the form to Mr. Keesling, G-C Athletic Director.

4. Mrs. Greene created an 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Trip roommate request form in Google for students to fill out. Students must be logged into their school Google account to fill out the request form.

Regular Reminders
When the temperature is below freezing, we will allow students who are dropped off early into the building at 8:00am. Students who arrive earlier and wish to come into the building, may attend FOCUS (study tables), which begins at 7:30am daily. Students who attend FOCUS are expected to arrive at 7:30am and be working on school related assignments.

The GCJHS library will now open at 8am for students who want to check out a book, study or get on a computer before school.

Winter sports schedules are available on the athletics page on our website- http://apps.gcsc.k12.in.us/blogs/gcjhs-athletics/schedules/

Parking lot procedures-The right lane is for a brief drop off and the left lane is for moving traffic. If your child needs longer to gather his/her things, please park in the lot and then walk from there into the building. We want to keep students safe and avoid traffic backups onto Franklin Street.

Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars Program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school. Scholars who enroll are connected to programs and resources to help them plan, prepare, and pay for college. 7th and 8th grade Indiana students whose families meet income eligibility guidelines must apply to become a 21st Century Scholar by June 30 of the student’s 8th grade year. You can apply online at www.Scholars.IN.gov. You may also contact the school counselor for additional information.

Boxtops-Do you have Boxtops for education laying around? Our Special Education Department is collecting them to raise funds for classroom trips. Please send in your boxtops to the office to help this great group!
