News:

  1. We had a great crowd for our Meet the Teacher Night last week!  If you weren’t able to come, please feel free to call or email your child’s teachers with questions or concerns.

  2. We will have our Washington DC 8th grade trip information meeting this Thursday, 6pm-7pm.

  3. We began NWEA testing today.  We use the data to help guide our instruction.  There are four tests: reading, language, math, and science. The tests are adaptive in nature, which means the questions on the test get more difficult or simpler depending upon if the student gets the questions correct or not.  We take our NWEA tests three times a year (August, December and May.) There is a letter from Dr. Olin and Mrs. Vail attached to this email explaining further details.

  4. Students successfully completed the MacBook “bootcamp” training last week.  They should all be well-informed about their devices as well as school rules.

  5. We encourage students to attend our athletic events.  Any GCJHS student who wears school colors will be admitted for free to our junior high home events.  We will pass out school T-shirts to every 7th grade student who has not already received it, at lunch this week.

  6. We will have three eLearning Days this year, where students will work from home and teachers will keep office hours.  The dates are September 26, November 1, and January 30.

  7. School days cancelled due to weather will also be eLearning days this year.  We will have more details on how this works later this fall

Reminders:

  1. Students can be dropped off to wait outside in the morning. The doors to the building will be open beginning at 8:20 a.m. each day.

  2. Breakfast is available to students every morning before school.

  3. Textbook Fees can be turned in anytime this month. $150.12 for 7th grade and $149.05 for 8th grade.

If you still want to purchase insurance for your child’s MacBook, it will need to be inspected at the time of payment.  This can be done during the school day. Insurance costs $50 and has a $40 deductible for each claim.
