1.We are so proud of our students for the fantastic Veteran’s Day program they provided! Mrs. Greene and the student council put in a lot of time to prepare and it showed! The student body was fantastic. The band and choirs performed beautifully. We couldn’t be prouder to have veterans, friends and family join us at the program and reception.
2. When the temperature is below freezing, we will allow students who are dropped off early into the building at 8:00am. Students who arrive earlier and wish to come into the building, may attend FOCUS (study tables), which begins at 7:30am daily. Students who attend FOCUS are expected to arrive at 7:30am and be working on school related assignments.
3. The candles have arrived! The boxes are rather large! If your child sold Yankee Candles for the Washington DC fundraiser, pickup will be Tuesday, November 18, 6pm-7pm in the cafeteria. Please enter through the main west doors (back side of the school.) If you are unable to come Tuesday, please email Mrs. Green at [email protected]
4. Consider participating in the Speak Up survey. Speak Up is a survey designed to help parents share their ideas directly with schools and national policymakers. By participating in Speak Up, parents are expressing their views to a wider audience of local, state, and national policy makers as well as the business community- and contributing to the national dialog about science, technology, and preparing students for the 21st century workforce. To take the survey visit: http://www.speakup4schools.org/speakup2014/ and click the blue “parents enter here” button!
5. Please be sure to check teachers’ blogs and websites linked through our webpage for the latest news and assignments.
Regular Reminders
Winter sports are underway! Schedules are available on the athletics page on our website- http://apps.gcsc.k12.in.us/blogs/gcjhs-athletics/schedules/
A few spots have opened up for the 8th grade trip to Washington DC. Those interested should call 800-225-9919 or 317-581-1122 to register today. This is a first come first served situation. Once those spots are filled, registration will close. Please note that one to two payments may be required to register.
Parking lot procedures-The right lane is for a brief drop off and the left lane is for moving traffic. If your child needs longer to gather his/her things, please park in the lot and then walk from there into the building. We want to keep students safe and avoid traffic backups onto Franklin Street.
Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars Program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school. You can apply online at www.Scholars.IN.gov
